Add a chat widget to your website

Create a Web Chat channel, customize its look and home screen, install it on any website or WordPress, and review visitor activity.

The Web Chat widget puts your assistant on your website as a floating chat button.

Create and customize

  1. Open Channels > Add New Channel > Web Chat, then open the new channel.
  2. The page has three tabs: Customize, Install and Advanced.

Customize

  • Your business: Display name (shown at the top of the chat) and Avatar or logo (otherwise a default avatar is used).
  • Choose a look: pick a style, set a Brand color, or keep your Custom colors. More styles shows additional presets.
  • Welcome message: leave Use automatic greeting, or choose Customize to write Your greeting (applies to this website chat).
  • Home content: choose what visitors see before starting a chat. Show home screen (turn off to open directly into chat), FAQs (pick from your assistant's FAQs), Contacts (people or departments from your Contact Directory) and Quick actions (automations visitors can start).

Use Preview Widget to see it in Desktop, Tablet and Mobile viewports before installing.

Install

Save your changes first, then choose one method (use only one, or the widget loads twice):

  • Embed code: copy the script and paste it once before the closing </body> tag, or in your site builder's footer or custom code area.
  • Set up with AI: copy a prompt that includes your exact embed script and give it to an AI coding tool that edits your website.
  • WordPress: use the official BaTimo plugin. Install and activate it, generate a connection token in BaTimo, then in WordPress open Settings > Batimo, connect with the token, select this channel and enable webchat. See WordPress integration.

Advanced and General options

  • Website domains: comma-separated domains allowed to load the widget. Keep * to allow all websites.
  • Availability, chat features such as file upload and sound notifications, display rules (where to show the chat), language overrides, home layout order, chat button position and icon, and a Privacy notice.
  • Activity: see how visitors use this website chat.

Contacts and human support

Contacts you add under assistant settings can be shown in the chat and used for human handoff. Manage them via Manage contacts in Assistant.

Tips

  • Use your brand color and logo so the widget looks native.
  • Show 3 to 5 FAQs on the home screen to deflect repetitive questions.
  • Restrict Website domains to your own domains once live.

Troubleshooting

  • The widget does not appear: confirm the script is installed once, the channel is active, and your domain is allowed.
  • Widget appears twice: you used more than one install method. Remove one.
  • Preview fails to load the script: choose Retry.

Limitations

  • Changes apply after you choose Save Changes. Use Clear Changes to reset unsaved edits.
  • Advanced image uploads have size limits (for example the header logo is limited to about 150 KB).
