Story reply automations
Answer people who reply to your Instagram stories with a fixed reply or a guided flow, or thank every reply.
A story reply automation responds when someone replies to your Instagram story with a message.
Before you start
- An Instagram channel with Answer Story Replies turned on (otherwise story replies are received but never answered).
Create one
- Automations > New automation > Story Reply (templates: Thank every story reply, Story link reminder).
- Name it.
- Trigger: a word or phrase with a match type, or Any story reply.
- Reply: Send a fixed reply (enter the Reply message, up to 1,000 characters) or Start a flow (pick the flow).
- Enabled, then Save.
Examples
- Link reminder: trigger Any keyword
link, where, shop; reply with your shop URL. - Thanks: trigger Any story reply; reply "Thank you! Message us anytime."
What is ignored
Emoji-only reactions (for example a heart) and stickers are ignored silently and never answered. Story replies with real typed text or a real attachment are processed normally.
History and usage
Matched replies appear in the Inbox with an Automation label and the automation name. Fixed replies do not consume AI conversation quota and continue when that quota is exhausted. If the conversation later reaches AI, it uses quota on its first AI turn. Statistics are available in Automations, including inside the mobile app.
Tips
- Use specific triggers for story campaigns ("code", "link") and one catch-all thank-you at lower priority.
- Reply to the intent, not just thank people: include a link or next step.
Troubleshooting
- No reply sent: check Answer Story Replies on the channel and that the automation is enabled.
Limitations
- Counts toward your enabled automation limit. Only text, not reactions, triggers a reply.
