Upload documents your assistant can use

Upload PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown and CSV files so your assistant can answer from them, and manage their status.

Documents let the assistant answer from your own material: price lists, brochures, policies, class schedules, product manuals.

Before you start

  • Save your assistant first.
  • Use text-based files. Scanned images are not read.

Upload documents

  1. Open Assistant > Knowledge sources.
  2. Drop files into Drop your files here or choose Choose files.
  3. Optionally set the Document language and edit the Document title.
  4. Choose Upload files / retry failed.

Supported formats: PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown and CSV, up to 20 MB per file.

Document status

Files are processed in the background. Your assistant can use a document once its status is Ready.

StatusMeaning
Not processed / QueuedWaiting
ProcessingBeing read and indexed
ReadyThe assistant can use it
FailedProcessing failed. Use Process file to retry
DisabledSwitched off; not used in answers

Manage documents

Search by title, turn a document on or off with Use [title] in assistant answers, Edit its title and description (this does not change its contents), or Delete it. A deleted document is no longer used in answers.

Tips

  • One topic per file is easier to keep current than one huge document.
  • Replace outdated files instead of adding a second version.
  • After uploading, run a test with a question the document should answer.

Troubleshooting

  • "Choose a supported, non-empty file up to 20 MB": check the format and size.
  • Stuck on Queued or Failed: use Process file; if it keeps failing, re-export the file as text or PDF with selectable text.

Limitations

  • Only text-based content is used. Not available as a dedicated mobile screen.
